LA GRANDE, Oregon – The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team will head to Hermiston for their season opener versus Multnomah Bible College. The game will take place Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Hermiston High School.

While the Mountaineers normally compete in Quinn Coliseum on the EOU campus, their first home game will be played in Hermiston, bringing the game to fans in the Hermiston area.

For two members of the Mountaineer team, Mark and Paul Carollo, this will truly be a “home” game. The brothers are originally from Hermiston, where they graduated from high school.

“Mark and Paul are pretty excited to play a game in their old high school,” said EOU head coach Ryan Looney. “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our team and the type of outreach Mountaineer athletics is all about.”

EOU has a close relationship with Hermiston. The university has had a distance education presence in the area for many years, led by Marie Hall, regional programs adviser. In 2005 EOU opened a distance education center office and hired Alejandra Pacheco as the Hermiston adviser center director to provide on-site advising. EOU is also partnering with the City of Hermiston to expand the office into a regional university center and offer a broad range of programs to the region.

In addition to the game, EOU will host a reception for alumni, parents, friends and supporters at 6:30 p.m. in the Hermiston High School commons. Refreshments will be provided by Hermiston High School’s Bulldog Catering. The pep band and cheer squad will also help cheer on the Mountaineer team during the game.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under, seniors and Hermiston High School students with identification. EOU students with identification will be admitted to the game for free. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

The game and reception are jointly sponsored by the EOU Booster Club, the EOU Foundation, the EOU Alumni Association and Hermiston High School.  For more information contact University Advancement at (541) 962-3740 or e-mail advancement@eou.edu.
