La Grande, Oregon – Glenn Paige, president of the Center for Global Nonviolence, will speak at Eastern Oregon University on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in Huber Auditorium, Badgley Hall. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Paige will address the question, “Is a nonkilling society possible?” Author of the book, “Nonkillling Global Political Science,” Paige is a professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii. EOU honors students are currently studying his book and will get the chance to meet with him during his visit.

“Paige is a professor, a political scientist and a scholar, but most of his work has been done out in the world,” said Rob Davis, director of undergraduate studies at EOU.

The Center for Global Nonviolence, a nonprofit institution based in Hawaii, was founded with the belief that a nonviolent world is possible.

“This is a great way for the campus community to engage in the content of the fall term honors seminar this year, which is “Making Change.” The focus will be on how social change occurs in the world. Part of that is a study of non-violent resistance in the world as a way of producing change,” Davis said.

Paige encourages those who attend his lectures to read the first two chapters of “Nonkilling Global Political Science,” as well as the sixth chapter. This will help the audience be well informed, said Davis, and prepared for actively participating in the lecture.

The book is available online, free to download in its entirety at http://www.globalnonviolence.org/nonkilling.htm. For more information contact the Office of University Advancement at (541) 962-3585.
