Regina Braker
LA GRANDE, Oregon – The American Association of Teachers of
German, (AATG), and the Goethe-Institute, New York, will present their
annual Certificate of Merit to Regina Braker, professor of German at
Eastern Oregon University.
Braker is one of nine recipients of the 2006 award for outstanding
achievement in furthering the teaching of German in schools in the
U.S. The award has been presented annually since 1978 by the AATG
and Goethe-Institute to a select group of educators in the field of
German.
“I have had great students and wonderful colleagues here on our campus to work with, but as a sole German program faculty member, I am compelled to find collegial connections beyond our campus as well,” said Braker, who has taught at EOU since 1995.
“It continues to be a professional pleasure to work with teachers throughout our state and region through the Confederation in Oregon for Language Teaching and the Oregon Association of Teachers of German,” she said.
Braker also appreciates the professional development opportunities of the AATG and she has traveled to Flathead Lake, Mont., San Francisco and Munich to attend the Goethe-Institute’s “Trainernetzwerk.”
The award presentation ceremony will take place on Nov. 18, during the AATG’s annual meeting in Nashville and will be attended by approximately 500 of the organization’s members. Rachel Halverson, associate professor of German at Washington State University and fellow teacher trainer in the Goethe Institute Trainer Network, nominated Braker for the award.
