La Grande, Oregon — Members of the University community will lace up their sneakers on Saturday, Oct. 8, for the seventh annual Dr. Rita S. Monahan Walk-a-Thon.

The event begins at 10 a.m. on the Eastern Oregon University track. In honor of the late Dr. Monahan, the walk-a-thon was first started by Oregon Health and Science University nursing students at EOU. A fund in Dr. Monahan's name was established and money raised goes toward scholarships to help nursing students who qualify for their state board exams.

Dr. Monahan was an associate professor of nursing, specializing in adult health and illness and her service to students at OHSU spanned well over a decade. Her husband, Dr. Greg Monahan is a professor of history at EOU.

For more information contact Charlotte Kreger after 8 p.m. at (541) 786-0584. Brochures and pledge sheets for walkers are available at the OHSU School of Nursing Office in Badgley Hall, Room 302A.
