La Grande, Oregon - “Talking With…” written by Jane Martin and directed by John Hobson, will be the final play of the season presented by the Theatre Department at Eastern Oregon University. The play opens on June 2 and will run June 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11, in the Lyle Schwarz Theatre in Loso Hall.
Recipient of the 1982 American Theatre Critics Award, "Talking With..." is a compilation of 11 women's monologues. Each monologue takes a brief glimpse into the life of a woman on the edge of crisis. As they expose their souls, they reveal their hopes, dreams, fears, struggles and heartaches. In doing so, they raise the consciousness of what it means to be a woman in modern day society.
“It is truly amazing to be able to work with 11 women of such a diverse age range, which runs from first year college freshman to middle age,” said John Hobson, director of EOU’s production. “What is probably more important is that we are able to produce this show so close to university commencement and in the midst of everyone’s class schedules and other scholastic commitments. This is a fine group of actors and I am extremely proud of the work of each of these women.”
Each titled monologue features a different actress. “Fifteen Minutes” stars Rebecca Heihn, of Hermiston. Lindsay Freeland, a freshman at EOU from Great Falls, Mont., will perform the monologue “Scraps.”
“Clear Glass Marbles” will feature Nora Anne Croucher in her debut performance on the EOU stage. The “Audition” monologue will be Ashli Palmer’s second appearance in an EOU production. Palmer is from Rigby, Idaho. “Rodeo” will star Kelsey Robertson, from Everett, Wash.
“Twirler” will showcase the talent of EOU freshman Erin Kinzer, from Pullman, Wash. “Lamps” will star Danae Yurgel, of La Grande. Kelly E Gallego, from Alaska, is a 2004 EOU graduate in history and theater and will perform “Handler.”
“Dragons” features Rikki Jo Hickey, of La Grande. “French Fries” is to be played by Jennifer Seydel of La Grande. “Marks” stars Genevieve Ehart of Portland.
John Hobson, a graduate of Kent State University, will direct the show. Ignacio Benavente, of Saipan, who is studying theater arts at EOU, will serve as stage manager for the production.
Curtains will rise at 8 p.m. for each showing. General Admission is $4 and tickets may be purchased by calling the EOU Box Office at (541) 962-3757. The show is recommended for mature audiences.
