La Grande, Oregon – One angry young man wants to know the answer to the question, “Where did my dreams go?” in an upcoming performance sponsored by the Community School of the Arts at Eastern Oregon University.

“Whitewash,” a play written by Grant Evans and presented by the Los Angeles Harbor College Theatre Department, will open Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in McKenzie Theatre. The performance features visiting actor Antwan Lamar Herron. Tickets are $5.00 and are available at the EOU Bookstore, Sunflower Books in La Grande, and at the door.

“Whitewash” explores the idea of the need to be needed – a need to leave a positive lasting impression on people and the world. Los Angeles Harbor College is bringing the play to EOU as part of a tour of Union and Wallowa counties. They will be performing for and meeting with students from EOU and from Wallowa and Enterprise high schools. The content is not recommended for audiences under the age of 12.

“This play provides a unique opportunity for the EOU community,” said Community School director John Winn. “We will have the chance to enjoy the production, meet with the cast and professors, and engage in dialogue with students and staff from an area far removed from northeast Oregon.”

Eastern hopes to begin discussions with Los Angeles Harbor College and their partner schools in Europe on possible future collaborations with EOU and its programs, said Winn. The president and academic dean of the two-year community college will also be on campus, meeting with EOU faculty and administration.

"Los Angeles Harbor College has been a pioneer in education and the arts throughout the globe, and we look forward to developing our relationship,” said Dr. Marilyn Levine, EOU dean of Arts and Sciences. “We are very honored to have their president and dean accompanying the students to our region.”
