The Eastern Oregon University cross country teams raced last week at the Coyote Twilight Meet in Caldwell, Idaho. EOU freshman Karlee Coffey won the women's race with a time of 16:56:60.
Coffey captured the title, beating out NCAA Div. 1 runners and runners from No. 6 in the NAIA College of Idaho. She ran one minute and two seconds faster than her previous personal record and the fastest time in the Cascade Collegiate Conference this year. Her time was nearly a minute faster than second-place runner Christine Olen.
Sarah Hanchett placed second for the Mounties, followed by Alma Garcilazo, Kendra Stone and Talissa Baldovino, who all had times under 18:40 and finished in the top 15.
The EOU women, ranked 23rd in the NAIA, came in second behind the College of Idaho 'Yotes.
On the men's side, the top five runners were only separated by 12 seconds, led by Damion Flores with a time of 23:58.60. Forrest Lumpry finished in fourth place for the Mountaineers, finishing the race in 24:05.50.
The Mountie cross country teams will take a break until the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships on Nov. 7 in Eugene.
