Capstones– THEA 406 Senior Project (3 Credits)

    

A capstone project should reflect your training and abilities in theatre. The following checklist should help you start your project and see it through to completion:
• Decide what you want to do an speak with a theatre faculty member for advice and fine tuning.
• Submit in writing a project description to all theatre faculty members. This must include:
a. A list of goals and objectives with an explanation of how they will be achieved.
b. A paragraph describing why this will be the culmination of your theatre experience at Eastern.
c. A timeline indicating when you will complete each requirement of the project.
d. A list of people involved in your project.
e. A paragraph stating why this project benefits the theatre program and the community at large.
The description should be about 2-4 pages long.
Each area has a handout of specific requirements that must be obtained from the appropriate advisor. Qualifications and written description deadlines are listed below.
ACTING

Notification deadline is within forty-eight hours of being cast. To qualify the student must have a leading role in a Main or Cutting Edge Season show. (Ken Bush, Kenn Wheeler or April Curtis)
DIRECTING

Notification of intended show must be submitted by May 1 of the year prior to graduation for consideration in the Main or Cutting Edge Seasons. The proposed project must be a full-length play. (Ken Bush)
DESIGN

Notification will be made by design faculty in June of the year preceding the show. (Costume-Heather Tomlinson, Lights and Set— Michael Heather)
PLAYWRITING

Submissions for "The New Play Series" must be in by the end of the first week of November. Prerequisites in this area of concentration are THEA 212, 213, 214, Writing 121, successful completion of the WPE and an independent playwriting tutorial. (April Curtis)
EDUCATION

Notification of pedagogical subject and venue must be submitted no later than finals week two terms prior to graduation. (April Curtis or Ken Bush)
STAGE MANAGEMENT

Notification of stage management project must be received by the end of the student’s Jr. year or the year previous to the production season of the project. They must have also received permission from the director of the project for which they wish to stage manage. (Kenn Wheeler)
RESEARCH PAPER

Notification of paper topic must be submitted no later than finals week two terms prior to graduation. The paper should be twenty-five to thirty pages in length. Prerequisites for this area of concentration are THEA 464, 465, 466 and a successful completion of the Writing Proficiency Exam. (Ken Bush)


Failure to meet the requirements of a project including deadlines: regular appointments with advisor and collaborators; research and writing; organized portfolio; and final review by theatre faculty will result in a failing grade and no credit.
