Theatre Pedagogy

My name is Jessica Bowles and I am from Rainier Oregon. As a kid I was raised on musicals but I never thought about being in them. My parents always told me that I have been performing my whole life and that I had a "voice for the stage" as my mother said. It wasn't until I was a senior in high school that I got up the nerve to try out for the musical, "Into the Woods" where I got the part as Jack's Mom. It was wonderful but I still didn't think I would pursue theatre. I thought that I would become a teacher or a psychologist. I had received that year the Salutatorian scholarship to go to Eastern Oregon University and I decided to sign up for a beginning acting class and that was when the magic happened. It was like all those years of suppressing my theatre feelings had final came out. I knew my reason to live. Also, Kenn Wheeler signed me up as a theatre major so I really had no choice. But I knew that theatre, every aspect of, was what I wanted to pursue in life. I knew I wanted to teach theatre one day at college level and maybe help other young niave students realize the magic which is theatre.
