Constitution of the

Eastern Theatre Club,or "ETC"

 
ARTICLE I-NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION
SECTION 1:

The name of this organization shall be Eastern Theatre Club, or "ETC" (pronounced "etcetera")

ARTICLE II-PURPOSES OF THE ORGANIZATION
SECTION 1:

Encourage active participation in theater by all members of the campus student body.

SECTION 2:

To better educate club members about on-going productions in the northwest (through travel, workshops, lectures, etc.)

SECTION 3: To provide a positive environment for growth in the Theater Arts.
SECTION 4: Fundraising.
ARTICLE III-MEMBERSHIP
SECTION 1:
Our club will be open to any student on campus, any interested alumni, and members of the community.
SECTION 2:
Active members are those who attend meetings as scheduled by the  Executive Council. Honorary members shall include interested  community members and alumni. Honorary members may participate  in all club activities, but do not have the power to vote. Voting will  take place only at mandatory meetings, and any active member may  vote. Dues are not required of any member
SECTION 3: There will be no termination of membership.
ARTICLE IV-STATEMENT OF NON-DISCRIMINATION
                                The practices and policies of the Eastern Theatre Club, or ETC do not:
SECTION 1:  

Exclude from being hired, or otherwise discriminate against any individual with respect to her/his compensation, terms, condition, or privileges of employment, because of such individual's race, color, creed, religion, age, sex. Disabled Veteran or Vietnam Veteran.

SECTION 2:  

Exclude or expel from membership or limit membership because of such individual's race, color, creed, religion, age, sex, national origin, handicap, sexual orientation or status as a Disabled Veteran or Vietnam Era Veteran.

 
*Amendment to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The  Senate amendment amends Section 901 (a) of the Education  Amendments of 1972 (Public Law 92-51S',S6 Stat.575), relating to  the prohibition of sex discrimination to provide that Section 901 shall  not apply to membership practices of:
 
1. certain social fraternities and social sororities consisting primarily  of students in attendance at an institution of higher education; and
 
2. voluntary youth service organizations including the YMCA, the  YWCA, Girl Scouts, Campfire girls and Boy Scouts, the membership of  which traditionally has been limited to persons of one sex and to  persons 19 years of age or less.
ARTICLE V-OFFICERS OF THE ORGANIZATION
SECTION 1:

The elected officers of this organization shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

SECTION 2:
Term of office shall be one school year.
SECTION 3:

It shall be the duty of the President to chair all general club meetings, lead the voting process, organize club meetings, and to provide a positive role model for all members.

SECTION 4:

It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to attend all committee meetings, assist the President in all duties, chair meetings in the President's absence, and to provide a positive role model for all members.

SECTION 5:

It shall be the duty of the Secretary to transcribe and review minutes at each meeting, keep attendance records at all general club meetings, inform all members of upcoming general club meetings, and to provide a positive role model for all members.

SECTION 6:

It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to keep accurate financial records of all club transaction, to be present at all fundraising committee meetings, to be present at all meetings regarding the expenditure or receipt of club moneys.

SECTION 7:

It shall be the duty of the Faculty Advisor to attend and participate in all general mandatory club meetings and Executive Council meetings. The Faculty Advisor also holds the right to vote during meetings he/she attends.

SECTION 8:

Executive Officers duties will be terminated if he/she fails to perform duties to the satisfaction of the Executive Council.

ARTICLE VI-ELECTIONS
SECTION 1:

Elections for the Executive Council will be held during the last meeting of spring term and the old Executive Council will preside over any new business for the remainder of the meeting. Elections for committee heads will be held during the first meeting of the new fiscal year.

SECTION 2:

Nominations may be made by any active member of the club. Voting for Executive Council and committee heads will be held by secret ballot. A majority is required to will the election.

SECTION 3:
Any club member present (except for honorary members) has the right to vote.
ARTICLE VII-EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
SECTION 1:

The Executive Council shall consist of the elected officers and the Faculty Advisor.

SECTION 2:

The President and the Treasurer are the only members of the organization allowed to sign for any club financial transactions.

SECTION 3:

A simple majority vote of the Executive Council shall be necessary to pass any business which is referred to the Executive Council.

ARTICLE VIII-COMMITTEES
SECTION 1:
Standing Committees include:
 
-Events Committee
 

Duties: Organize all aspects of bringing a lecture or workshop to campus.

 
-Fundraising and Benefits Committee
 
Duties: Organize and Head all fundraising events. (Two mandatory events per year)
 
-Trips Committee
 

Duties: In charge of all trip coordination. Head chair must work directly in conjunction with the theater travel coordinator.

 
-Special Events and Activities Committee
 

Duties: In charge of all activities dealing with non seasonal theater club events.

SECTION 2:

Chairpersons will be nominated and elected by active club members via secret ballot. Chairpersons must attend all of their own committee meetings. Members of a committee are not elected.

ARTICLES IX-MEETINGS
SECTION 1:

Club meetings will be held once a month (time and date to be decided by a 3/4 majority of the club). The Executive Council shall meet once a month, independent of the club meeting.

SECTION 2:

A majority vote of the Executive Council is required to call special meetings.

SECTION 3:

Committee heads will be required to attend the first half of the monthly Executive Council meetings.

ARTICLE X-QUORUM
SECTION 1:

A majority of the Executive Council and 10 active members must be present at a meeting in order to transact business legally.

ARTICLE XI-FINANCIAL PROVISIONS
SECTION 1 There are no dues.
ARTICLE XII-AMENDMENTS
SECTION 1
Amendments must be presented to the Executive Council for approval before they may be submitted to the organization for vote. This must be done at least one week prior to the meeting in which it will be voted on
SECTION 2

No notice must be given to the club, but the president will allow discussion before voting, and voting will take place at the same meeting unless otherwise moved. If a vote must be moved to a later date, it cannot be postponed any more than one general club meeting.

SECTION 3
A 3/4 majority vote of active members is required to amend the constitution.
ARTICLE XIII-ENACTING CLAUSE
SECTION 1

This Constitution shall become effective upon approval by the Student Affairs Committee.
