Schedule / Deadlines
Special InstructionsThe Makeup Morgue. This is an Internet research project. It should be organized in a POWER POINT presentation format. Using your computer, research different types of faces, compiling the faces into a photo morgue. These photos should be of as many different types of faces as possible. Try to find interesting faces to give your morgue variety. Also the larger the pictures, the more effective the morgue will be. Images that are too small to see facial details or are distorted or pixilated will be marked down. You should divide your morgue into at least the following eleven categories. YOU SHOULD INCLUDE AT LEAST FIVE PICTURES IN EACH CATEGORY (An example of a makeup morgue is provided on the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard.) 1) Children 2) Young men and women 3) Middle-aged men and women 4) Old aged men and women 5) Facial hair 6) Special makeup effects such as Scars Blackeyes Blisters 7) Fantasy 8)Kabuki Makeup Applications. You will be designing the following seven types of makeup applications. 1) Basic Corrective 2) Old Age with Paint 3) Extreme Old Age 4) Special Effects 5) Facial Hair (Check the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard for further information.) 6) Fantasy*(Check the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard for further information.) 7) Kabuki* (Check the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard for further information.) *FOR THE FANTASY AND KABUKI APPLICATIONS YOU WILL UTILIZE YOUR IMAGINATION MORE THE OTHER APPLICATIONS. BECAUSE OF THIS, EACH WILL BE GRADED ON DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO CREATE A SIMPLISTIC DESIGN THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO DO YOUR BEST, YOUR GRADE WILL BE REDUCED. EACH DESIGN SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE THE USE OF SOME SORT OF FOUNDATION. IT SHOULD BE A DESIGN FOR THE WHOLE FACE.
For each of the first five applications, the student will watch the DVD lesson provided for the makeup and then create the makeup on yourself or a volunteer. You will then take three digital photos of yourself or your volunteer and e-mail it to the instructor who will then grade it. For each application you will take a photo with a front view and one with a view of the left side of your face and one with the view of the right side of your face. (Check the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard for further information.)
NOTE: Along with your FIRST application you should also send three photos of you without any makeup, a sort of “before” viewpoint. This will help me in determining the quality of your makeup work.
SPECIAL NOTE: PHOTOS SHOULD BE NO BIGGER THAN 500 KB EACH.
For the last two applications the student will create the makeup according to the instructions given for each makeup. You will then take three digital photos and e-mail them to the instructor. (Information for each makeup can be found on the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard)
The Makeup Effectiveness Essay. Watch the film, The Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man’s Chest and compose an essay detailing the effectiveness of the makeup design. Comment on each of the main characters, giving a detailed account of what you observe about the makeup used and how it helped each actor to create their character. The essay should be no less than three typed pages using one-inch margins and twelve-point font size. (An example of a Makeup Effectiveness Essay is provided on the “Course Documents” page on Blackboard.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: As soon as receive your makeup kit, be sure to test it on a small area of your skin. If you develop redness, pain or any sort of rash, then you are probably allergic to the make-up and will need to find a volunteer for the applications. Some people are allergic to the spirit gum used for beard application. Others are allergic to the latex used for extreme old age. There will be a few who will have an allergic reaction to the foundation. If you find that you are allergic to any of the makeup, PLEASE use a volunteer for the applications.
