Chris Torres Stage Management Christopher Nicholas Torres was born in La Mesa, CA (a suburb of San Diego) on May 24, 1984 to Robin Michelle and Johnny Dee Torres. He has two brothers, Brandon and Jared, and is the middle child. Growing up he would always tease his brothers telling them he is the best part because it was like he was “the cream of the cookie” or “the meat of the sandwich” aka the best part. Chris’ first theatre experience was in 6th grade when he was cast as Huckleberry Finn in a musical version of Tom Sawyer. This is where Chris’ love of theatre began but unfortunately he was painfully shy and pulled himself into a shell and Tom Sawyer was his first and last performance. For the past few years Chris has been working towards a degree in Media Arts/Film Studies and during his time at Eastern Oregon University he has written, directed, shot, and edited three films: They (2007), Our Family Too (2008), and Obsessed (2009). While his love for film is very extreme and not something he could ever give up, Chris felt this wasn’t enough and he was missing something in his life. Being a theatre minor, he found himself wanting to try his hand at Stage Management and decided to take Prof. Kenn Wheeler’s Stage Management class to see what it was all about. While talking with Prof. Wheeler in class about what a stage manager does, he asked Chris if he would be interested in stage managing the current production, She Stoops to Conquer (Fall 2008), directed by Ken Bush which currently did not have one. A little apprehensive but dying to get soaking wet, Chris dove right in. Learning as he went on this journey he fell in love and found the one thing he was missing. He added a second major to the list: Theatre! Stage Managing made him happy and no matter how stressful it gets, his loves continues to grow. His latest production was the side-splitting farce, Noises Off (Spring 2009), directed by Kenn Wheeler. Chris also enjoys writing and has written several short stories, short plays, short films, and is currently working on a full-length screenplay titled The Pinelands. He plans to attend graduate school to receive his M.F.A. in Theatre Stage Management (top choices being Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey or University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, California). Eventually he would like to move back home to San Diego but until then, the path to theatre madness will continue to wherever life takes him! |
