Resource Members Present: Dill, Taylor, and
Cutright
Guests Present: Mike Daugherty
Minutes:
Tech Fee Committee met on this date at 7:00
am in Pierce Library 114 to
introduce new committee members and to
discuss two emergency proposals.
Mike Cannon and Frederick Pratter were
introduced as new faculty committee
members.
Spencer Cooper and Darren Henderickson were introduced as new
student committee members. Not present at this meeting were the other
new
student members, Adam Patton and Rachel
Feierabend. Anna Cavinato explained
the mission, duties and membership parameters
of the Tech Fee Committee.
Helen Moore distributed copies of this year’s
budget and noted the $150,000
that did not carry over from last year. Anna will talk with Provost Miller
about the $150,000 and possible solutions to
the issue.
Mike Daugherty explained the problem of lack
of Internet speed in the
Residence Halls. Several steps have been taken to alleviate the problem,
including educating students about the
acceptable use of the network. In
addition, Mike presented an emergency
proposal requesting funds from the
Tech Fee to purchase an additional T-1 line
to serve the Residence Halls.
The annual cost of the annual T-1 line would
be approximately $6000.00 with
the possibility of a reduction if the line is
not used during summer breaks.
Anna explained an emergency proposal from Kat
Galloway to replace 4 old G-3
Macs in the Digital Imaging Lab. The limited capabilities of the old macs
are a hindrance to the students’ ability to
properly complete projects and
assignments.
The total amount requested is $10,924.00 and would come out of
the funds designated for Equipment
Replacement. A vote was called and both
proposals were unanimously approved.
No date was set for the next meeting.
