Tech Fee Committee Meeting
May 3, 2007
Members Present: Steffany Long, Anna Cavinato, Frederick Pratter, Brian Sather, Janet Hume-Schwarz, Linda Fratzke
Resource Members Present: Paul Rowan, Karen Clay, Helen Moore
Minutes from the February 22, 2007 were approved as submitted.
Noel Peden’s request for a new monitor to go with the Large Scanner proposal was approved as replacement. He was using an older Tech Fee monitor that had been originally used in another proposal.
Steffany distributed handouts regarding use of Ackerman and Pierce Labs. The data indicated that the student community could still be served adequately if we reduced the hours that Ackerman is open. Steffany suggested closing Ackerman at 5:00pm Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday with the following exceptions. Ackerman would be open regular hours on the Sunday before 5th, 10th and final week. This change in schedule would result in approximately $10,000/year savings in student labor costs. Committee moved to accept the proposal with the new schedule being put into effect Fall Term. We will monitor the use and adjust as necessary. Committee members commended Steffany for all her hard work on this committee.
Paul distributed copies of the proposed Proposal Submission Process changes. Significant discussion followed with numerous suggestions, including changing the submission timelines. Moving the submission deadline to late spring for the following academic year, to November 1st, to mid-November and to the end of Fall Term were all options that were discussed. Another suggestion was to create a pre-proposal process where the preliminary proposal would be sent to the Chairs, Deans and IT department for review before being forwarded to the full committee. That would allow for time to evaluate proposals for technical feasibility and maintenance as well as determine how well they fit into the strategic plan. The pre-proposals would be due mid Fall Term with the final (revised?) proposals due by the end of Fall Term.
Discussion will continue at the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00am.
