November 16, 2006
Members Present: Steffany Long, Carolyn Bloyed, Linda Fratztke, Janet Hume-Schwarz, Anna Cavinato, Brian Sather
Resource Members Present: Paul Rowan, Karen Clay, Anna Maria Dill, Mike Sirrine, Helen Moore
Guest: Steve Clements
Minutes from the November 9, 2006 meeting were approved with one correction - Paul Rowan was not present at the last meeting.
Michael Sirrine noted that only two proposals submitted this year had been reviewed by the Grants and Sponsored Programs Office. They were the Multicultural Student Center (Gaby Ochoa) proposal and the Video Teaching Classroom Loso 123 (Peter Wordelman) proposal. Michael asked Peter for more information, but did not receive it. He will contact Peter again regarding the issue
Steve Clements, IT Lead Equipment Systems Specialist, continued the discussion of the viability of each of this year’s proposals.
Individual proposals were briefly discussed as follows:
- Visual Presenter for LH 130. Committee needs to verify that the equipment models have been approved by AV.
- Video Teaching Classroom. Needs extensive review before decision is made.
- Human Performance Analysis System. Committee needs more information. Steve will email what he has to the committee.
- Groth Studio. Is this a money making project? Who does it benefit? Do students have ready access to the equipment? If so, how many?
- Camcorders for Media Loan Library. Committee needs more information. Helen will email Jon Norris’ evaluation of the proposal to the committee.
- Media Arts LH 235 RAM Upgrade. Should be handled as Maintenance.
- Loan Library Digital Still Camera Additions. Committee needs more information. Helen will email Jon Norris’ evaluation of the proposal to the committee.
- Electronic Music Lab Mac Pro Purchase. Room already wired and ready. The five Windows computers replaced by Macs could be placed elsewhere. It was agreed the Macs have an edge over PCs in this type of setting. Has the data projector been approved by AV? Do they need additional BackUPS? Could this be handled as Maintenance?
- Multicultural Student Center. An additional data port is required. Cost will be $600 or more – who will pay for it (Tech Fee does not pay for wiring)? Security is extremely critical. If the Electronic Music Lab Mac Pro Purchase approved, would the Windows machines that are being replaced work for this proposal?
- Business Testing-Simulation Lab. Several location options were discussed including combining the current Business Lab and ZH 116. The possibility of using ZH 204A was discussed. The committee will discuss this option with John Miller – we will invite him to a meeting in the near future for that purpose. It was agreed that there is a definite need for this facility. Janet and Steve will work to revise the proposal to reflect using ZH 204A.
The committee discussed the lack of information available regarding how equipment funded in prior years is being used. What happens to equipment that is no longer being used for the purpose originally proposed was also discussed. It was agreed that after this year’s proposals have been awarded the committee will assign a subcommittee to investigate better ways of tracking how equipment is being used.
Next meeting is scheduled for 7:00am, Thursday November 30th in the Library Conference Room.
