The Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street: Who decides who to shoot?

Videos:

Readings:

Assignment: 150 to 200 - word abstract (an abstract is basically a summary with some analysis)

Some things to think about: Press coverage--are sources chosen to take the story in a certain direction? Organization--are the rallies (or what we see of them) organized in different fashions? What about the trappings--the staging, the symbols used, the kinds of photo opportunities, references to America? The movements themselves--differences in the kinds of protesters shown, the places they choose to gather, etc.? Law enforcement--different responses?

The routine:

  1. Put the citations for the articles you read.
  2. Briefly summarize the articles (1-2 sentences for each).
  3. Relate the articles to the class (why do you think we're reading them?)
  4. Basically, I want you to show me that: 1) you read the articles, and; 2) you got something out of them. One way to think of it might be responding to the question, 'what did he want us to get out of this?' Or 'how does it relate to the topic for the week?'
