Grading procedures

'The A students get hired by the B students, who end up working for the C students.'

former college basketball coach Al McGuire
(describing students who focus on grades instead of learning).

Grades will be given on a straight percentage:

90% - 100%
450-500 (pts)
A
Minuses will be given for the bottom third (0-3) of each range; pluses for the top third (7-9). I will also use pluses and minuses to help if I feel that one's grade did not reflect his/her effort; I will not use them to reduce a grade.
80% -   89%
400-449
B
70% -   79%
350-399
C
60% -   69%
300-349
D
below    60%
< 300
F

All grades are final, unless I've made a mistake in the math. Please . . . don't come after the class is finished and ask if there's something you can do to improve your grade-you've got 10 weeks to work on it, and you'll have to be satisfied with what you can do during that time.

There will be a few extra credit points available for doing 'last minute papers' as well. These will mostly be unannounced.
