Mission and Strategic Priorities

Eastern Oregon University Division of Student Affairs supports and enhances the University’s mission by encouraging and assisting students to exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens of an academic community. The Division of Student Affairs provides services and support ensuring that all members of the EOU community have access to University programs, activities and benefits.

Fundamental assumptions underlying this mission are:

  1. A student centered campus environment contributes to a student's growth and development.
  2. Each student is unique.
  3. Each student has worth and dignity and deserves to be treated with respect.
  4. Students are responsible for their own development.
  5. Students have the opportunity to participate in an array of campus experiences and to interact with persons of diverse cultures and values.

    The EOU Office of Admissions is committed to the recruitment of qualified, motivated, prepared and diverse students while providing a supportive environment for entrance into the University community by creating a strong, positive identity through innovative recruitment activities, and acting as the liaison between prospective students and University programs.     Intercollegiate athletics are integral to the overall educational experience at Eastern Oregon University. As a cultural attraction of campus life, EOU athletic programs endeavor to connect the University with the Eastern Oregon region, and reflect high standards of studentship, sportsmanship, fair play, and concern for the individual and community. All student participants and department personnel are dedicated to academic and athletic excellence at the conference, regional and national levels. EOU is dedicated to a philosophy of firm institutional control of athletics, to the unquestioned academic and financial integrity of   the athletics program, and to the accountability of the athletics department to the values and goals befitting higher education.     Career Services enhances and supports the educational mission of Eastern Oregon University by offering a wide range of programs to help students broaden the perspective of their career choices and to understand the value of their education in relation to work.  This includes outreach to students in all academic programs on and off campus.  The Career Services staff assists students with their career concerns at any stage of their career development and provides resources for Eastern students, alumni and the community we serve.     To provide high quality individual and group counseling services to students that may be experiencing psychological or behavioral difficulties that interfere with their academic and/or personal success.  Our charge is to create an environment to foster self-development, responsibility and positive mental hygiene.     The Disability Services Office strives to provide and promote a supportive, accessible, non-discriminatory learning and working environment for students, faculty, staff and community members with disabilities.  These goals are realized through the provision of individualized support services, advocacy, and the identification and sharing of current technology and information related to accessibility and accommodations for persons with disabilities.     The Office of Financial Aid believes there are few, if any, investments in life as important as that of a college education.  The mission of the Office of Financial Aid at Eastern Oregon University is to provide access to financial resources in a fair, sensitive, and confidential manner; to educate students and their families about their financial options; and, to continually improve our services so that students may take full advantage of their educational opportunities.  Our office strives to be an efficient conduit between students and an array of University and external funding options.  We are dedicated to meeting the needs of a diverse and talented campus community by providing excellent customer service, in an accurate and timely manner, through the use of advanced technology and a knowledgeable, caring staff.     Office of Student Activities

    The Student Activities Office (SAO) strives to provide opportunities for students through involvement in clubs and organizations and other activities to gain competencies required of a well-educated individual in a safe environment that are in line with the mission of the University.  These experiences and programs are designed to entertain, develop leadership skills, enhance critical thinking, enrich student lives and serve the community while developing an understanding of the value of living in a diverse culture.     Hoke Union Building

    The role of the Hoke Union Building is to be the focal point for the entire campus where all members of the university and community are welcomed and encouraged to interact on a formal and informal basis.  It contributes directly to the educational mission of Eastern Oregon University by providing support and opportunities for participation in educational, cultural, and recreational activities, and provides services for the convenience of the campus community.  The Hoke Union Building is dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes diversity of thought and culture, educational opportunities for students and emphasizes a positive experience.     Eastern Oregon University’s Learning Center is dedicated to assisting all students in reaching their full intellectual potential.  Through academic support programs designed to complement the University’s curriculum, students are encouraged to become resourceful and self-directed learners.     The Residence Life Program is committed to providing an environment that is conducive to social, personal, and educational growth. To that end the Program strives to develop a sense of community and citizenship among residents living in the halls as well as teach students about the rights and responsibilities of living in a community environment.     The Office of Student Affairs provides resources that support student success in the social and academic community of Eastern Oregon University. We facilitate student transition and promote a positive college experience by implementing policies and procedures to enhance student and departmental success.     The primary mission of the Eastern Oregon University Student Health Center (EOU SHC) is to provide acute and chronic care, as well as promote health and well being of students so they can function optimally to achieve their educational goals.  Health education to build students’ self care skills and knowledge base promoting their participation in health care decision making is a parallel goal of the Student Health Center. We also respond to health related issues and concerns on the college campus that may interfere with students achieving their educational goals.  Serving as a practice site for health education students contributes to the exceptional learning environment of this campus.
