Pierce Library is the intellectual heart of the University and community. The Library supports the institutional mission of Eastern Oregon University by providing materials and services for all members of the University community. It supports the regional mission of the University by providing materials and services in connection with institutional outreach programs, through cooperative participation in regional library networks, and by making its collections and services available to the people of eastern Oregon.
Coffee (Magna Cum Latte): A variety of specialty coffees, smoothies and pastries can be purchased; the service is open during the academic quarters mornings only, Monday through Friday.
Internet access: Pierce Library allows use of your personal laptop computer in the library. Internet access is available for students and staff; you may connect at an active data port in designated areas in the library or use the campus wireless network.
Laptops for Checkout: Pierce Library offers laptops for use in the Library. Checkout is at the Circulation Desk on the main floor. Before using a library laptop computer, you must show a valid drivers license/picture ID and a current EOU ID, and complete an annual registration form.
Library Loans and Renewals: Most library materials circulate for 21 days. You are required to present your bar-coded ID card when checking out library materials. Library materials should be returned to the circulation desk, or if the Library is closed they may be placed in the book return slot at the Library entrances or the book drop located in the cul-de-sac north of the Library. Renewal information can be obtained at the circulation desk (962-3864). Materials can also be renewed online.
Photocopying and Printing: Copy Card/Coin-operated photocopying machines are located on the main floor just inside the entry doors, and downstairs near the circulation desk. Copy Cards can be purchased at the circulation desk. Black and white printing is available from the computers in the Electronic Research Center (ERC). Printing is free, but users must supply their own paper.
Study Areas: A variety of student seating and seminar areas are available, including a large casual open reading area on the main floor, group study rooms and quiet study area on the second floor, and small private study tables available along most outside windows.
TTY phone: A TTY enable phone for on-campus and local calls is available without charge across from the circulation desk.
Library Collections: Enjoy access to a myriad of online indexes and databases. Our electronic resources can be accessed online from anywhere on campus, or from off campus using your student barcode and PIN. The library provides a number of computers that can be used to search these databases – most are found on the main floor in the Electronic Research Center (ERC). You are encouraged to ask at the ERC desk for assistance in choosing and searching the best information sources for your topic.
Access to materials in Summit or through Interlibrary Loan: The Library is a member of the Orbis-Cascade Alliance, a consortium of 34 academic libraries in the northwest. You can search the combined catalog for these libraries, called Summit, and place orders directly from the system for items held at other institutions. Requested materials usually arrive within two to four days.
If you find we do not have an item you need in Pierce Library or in the Summit catalog, ask for assistance as we can usually borrow materials from other libraries by using the Interlibrary Loan Service. This normally takes seven to ten days so plan ahead.
Reserve Materials: Instructors may select books or other materials and place them in a restricted area behind the circulation desk. These are called Reserves and are listed in the library catalog by professor or course. Each instructor placing items on reserve determines the length of time they may be checked out. Renewal privileges also vary.
Sage Library System: Pierce Library is the host institution for the Sage Library System of Eastern Oregon, a combined catalog of Pierce Library and 70 academic, school, and public libraries throughout eastern Oregon. Over one million items are accessible through the Sage Library System, which can be searched from Pierce Library’s webpage.
