Student Computer Labs
Computing resources for Eastern students are available in several microcomputer labs. One large computer lab is on the third floor of Pierce Library in Rooms 305 and 306, with MS Windows PCs and one Macintosh computer. Another lab is located on the ground floor of Ackerman Hall, also with MS Windows PC's. These labs have application software for word processing, spreadsheet, database, statistics, and Internet use. Student lab assistants are on site during all operating hours.
The Learning Center, located on the second floor of Loso Hall, has assistants available for help during all operating hours and also provides tutorial help. The Learning Center's computer lab is equipped with Microsoft Windows PCs designated exclusively for student use.
In addition to the general use computer labs, there are many special purpose computer labs in Zabel Hall, Badgely Hall and Loso Hall. These labs are designated for use by students in specific disciplines such as agriculture, art, business, biology, chemistry, computer science, education, geology, math, modern languages, multimedia studies, music, nursing, physical sciences, physics, and psychology.
Student e-mail/Internet Accounts
All registered Eastern students are provided with e-mail/Internet accounts at no charge. Student accounts and passwords are created automatically when registering for a class. See /it/student/email for directions to access your EOU email account on any computer anywhere in the world with and internet connection. You can use your personal computer to access the e-mail/Internet via Ethernet in Mac's Grille, basement of Pierce Library and in all residence hall rooms. There is also Wireless service available for on comapus use outside of the dorms. For off-campus users, we maintain a dial-up modem pool and there are several local Internet Service Providers (ISP's) available to purchase services.
Internet Access
All residence hall rooms are connected to the campus local area network. For students in the residence halls, we highly recommend connecting to the campus network for much higher speeds than are available with modems. A network card and Ethernet cable is required for this connection and your phone remains available for calls. Please call (x23111) or visit Information Technology (Inlow Hall 008) for more information or if you would like to purchase these items with your student account.
For off-campus students, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection is highly recommended for non-interrupted high speed Internet access. Eastern does have a modem pool available at speeds up to 56 kbps. While there is no charge for the use of these modem pools, there may be some contention for inbound lines and modems during heavy use periods. Division of Distance Education students throughout Oregon and beyond can access all campus Internet services and associated courses through their local ISP connections.
Student Telephones
Common areas throughout the campus have centrally located wall phones for making local telephone calls at no charge. All residence hall rooms also have telephone service available in the rooms. AT&T long distance service is available for all residence hall occupants, through the Business Office in Inlow Hall.
