The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. 

 

Approval of July Minutes:  Minutes of the July meeting will be submitted for approval at the September meeting.

– Employee fractured ribs while leaning over a chair to reach a shredder.   Sought and received medial care.

-Employee fell down stairs and twisted their ankle

Building Inspections –  

Ackerman - no hazards reported

Quinn Coliseum - no hazards reported

Loso Hall – no hazards reported

Hoke Union Bldg – has temporary Exit signs

Zabel Hall - no hazards reported

Inlow Hall - Remodel still in progress – no hazards reported

Badgley Hall - no hazards reported

 

Safety Grams – None

 

AED – Rob has working knowledge of the unit.  In addition, Security Personnel are now fully trained by a certified instructor on use of the AED, CPR and First Aid.  Annual recertification will be required.  The AED unit is housed with Security. 

 

Pandemic Planning - Rob attended an OUS Safety Meetings where the plan for all of OUS was discussed.  The OUS plan has not yet been adopted but the EOU plan closely matches it.  Rob noted that the OUS administrators are taking the process very seriously.  Oregon has not applied for medication from the national stockpile at this time, but whether or not to do so is still under discussion.

 

Issue’s surrounding Risk Management and the tort case currently decided by the Oregon Supreme Court involving insurance was discussed.  There is a form for club advisors and volunteers regarding insurance and coverage.  In addition, there is a travel form that students and advisors sign when going on trips.  Steffany relayed concerns from Student Activities regarding club advisors and what kind of coverage they have when working in risk situations. 

 

8th Street Hill – There was discussion about how to make the hill safer throughout the year; although, the hills safety has improved during the winter months.  The safety committee should develop a solution and bring it to the attention of the cabinet for further discussion. 

 

Pierce Library will be conducting an evacuation drill in November and are inviting the La Grande Police Department and Fire Department.  They are currently going over their disaster plan and revamping it.

 

Old Safety Grams

-Brian Avila is still waiting on material samples for volleyball court border.  He hopes to have them available for September’s meeting.

 

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday September 14th at 1:00, in Hoke 301.
