Safety Grams – No new safety grams received, but a hazard was reported. The steps at the north outside entrance to Ackerman are unsafe and have been blocked off. Work order has been resubmitted to Facilities and Planning for repair. One was also submitted earlier in the year but Facilities and Planning personnel have been waiting for more favorable weather to begin the repairs.
Old Safety Grams
-Material samples for volleyball court border were not received in time for this meeting – Brian Avila hopes to have them available for June’s meeting.
AED – Rob and Stana attended a product presentation by Cardiac Science. The system was automatic and very easy to use, used voice prompts, automatically measured body mass, etc. The company lowered the price to match the Oregon state rate. Stana received authorization from athletics to purchase an AED before the end of June. Decision of what model to purchase is in progress. Rob is investigating other funding to purchase an additional AED for campus. There may be available funds in the “health and safety" budget.
Several campus employees will attend an Office Ergonomics assessment meeting tomorrow in Ontario. Rob is also urging SAIF Corp. to provide ergonomics training customized to the specific needs of campus and grounds employees. Nothing has been scheduled at this time.
Pandemic Planning - Rob shared a rough draft plan/timeline that the Pandemic Planning sub-committee has been working on for several months. It is still a work in progress and input will be requested from various campus areas before the document is finalized. Student Health Director Tempe Bartell, an OHSU employee, will assist with coordination between EOU and OHSU. This coordination is especially important because the OHSU School of Nursing administers Eastern’s Student Health Department. The sub-committee should have a complete first draft of the plan finished by end of this week and Rob will send copies to the entire committee as soon as they are available. Helen suggested that Rob present the plan to the President's Council as an informational item. A "Bird Flu" TV movie scheduled to air this week is expected to present a very unrealistic “worst case scenario” and will probably heighten concern surrounding pandemic issues - so the plan is very timely.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 12, 1:00pm, in the Ackerman Alumni Room
