March 18, 2002

NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from last meeting approved as submitted.

No New 801s (Workman Comp report)

No New Safety Grams

Travis met with Vice President Morgan and submitted the following Safety Officer's Report to the committee.

--Vice President Morgan will submit the Weapons Policy to the Cabinet for approval.
--The administration is aware of the McKenzie Stage Curtains issue and is researching possible solutions.
--The "Let There Be Light" tour will be scheduled in April or May, after the campus foliage is full. It has been suggested that students join campus personnel on the tour.
--Plant Services personnel is investigating the purchase or manufacture of locking caps to cover the irrigation holes on campus.
--Safety Committee Web page and online Safety Gram is now posted and functional.
--Travis will remind building managers of the policy regarding posting signs on doors and ask them to help enforce that policy.
--Safety Committee is asked to be aware of possible safety issues during the construction of the new science building. Charlie Ardvison has notified the City of La Grande of the construction timelines and activities.
--April 23 at 10:30am, April 25 at 2:30pm, April 30 at 10:30am are tentative dates and times for the upcoming Earthquake drill. Vice President Morgan will present these dates to the cabinet for their input before deciding on a final date. Vice President Morgan requested that Travis and another Safety Committee member brief the Cabinet on the Earthquake drill activities at the Cabinet Meeting just prior to the drill.

Travis suggested that the Building Managers and appropriate Plant Services personnel be asked to join the Safety Committee's next meeting to plan for the Earthquake drill.

Necessity of providing building keys to respective Building Managers was discussed. Travis will discuss with appropriate administration members and report back to the committee.

OLD BUSINESS

Finishing touches is being put on the draft Disaster Plan. Individual departments will be asked to update (or create if necessary) their department Disaster Plan.

Next meeting is scheduled for April 16, 2002 at 2:00pm. The first half hour will be Safety Committee only; Building Managers and Physical Plant personnel will join the meeting at 2:30pm.
