Rob attended the OUS Safety Officer’s meeting where Stanford University’s pandemic planning draft was inspected. The draft included 4 levels of planning to address different levels of threat: when folks around country are sick, when there is real threat of local epidemic, when there are some local folks sick and when there is a local epidemic. Bob, Stana and Rob met to discuss pandemic preparation at EOU and will have a draft for the meeting.
SAIF ergonomics was also discussed at the OUS Safety Officers meeting. A SAIF employee is planning to provide EOU with ergonomics training assessment around the 10th or 11th of May. We need someone in each building to volunteer to be ergonomic assessors. We should need about 10 people total. Committee members are asked to help identify EOU employees who would like to serve as ergonomics assessors. Rob will put a note on infoline asking for volunteers. Rob and Helen will serve as contacts for the volunteers. There could be some funds available for furniture modification, if needed. Often modifications are no cost, such as raising or lowering a chair or changing the level of a computer, etc. Rob will include a link to the SAIF training site with the infoline message.
Rob met with Dara Decker of Union County Emergency Services to discuss local disaster planning. Plans are underway to update EOU and Union County disaster plans and to coordinate with each other throughout the process. Dara is working on a mitigation report to help get some mitigation money for this fiscal year. EOU would “tack” on to it. Rob will continue to meet with her and the LaGrande Fire Department on the issue.
There is still no resolution to the status of the volleyball court. Rob was informed by Facilities that sod cannot be used to replace the concrete barrier as suggested due to problems with flood issues. The issue will be referred back the Athletics for alternate solutions. Tracy will talk to Irene regarding what research has already been done into the cost of adding padding to the concrete. Rob also suggested that adding additional sand to the court could help as well.
Still waiting on information regarding the AED and a possible grant to pay for it. Stana is working on this.
Still waiting on a permanent sign for the steps on the west side of IH - saying CLOSED. Rob will send a Service Request to Facilities.
Rob will check with the State Fire Marshall to get proper wording on the issue of requiring employees to leave the building during fire drills/alarms. A notice will then go out over infoline regarding the rules.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 20, 1:00pm, in the Ackerman Alumni Room. Meeting adjourned.
