Approval of November Minutes: Motion to approve; seconded; passed
801s – no time loss accidents.
-Employee received a puncture wound in foot while taking out the trash.
-Headstart volunteer tweaked their back while pulling a child on the sled.
-2 employees slipped on the ice.
-While walking across campus, employee got a foreign object in the eye.
Non–801s - none
Safety Grams – No new safety grams received, but the following safety items were brought to the committee.
-The warning signs at the top and the bottom of the grand staircase have blown off. Rob will submit a service request to Facilities and Planning to have permanent signs installed.
-The tongue and groove floor in one area of the weight room in Quinn is buckling. Solutions are being explored, including removing the flooring and leaving the bare concrete exposed. Rob has already submitted a service request to Facilities and Planning for estimates on the cost of different solutions.
-Athletic director, R. Cashell is concerned that the bleachers in Quinn main gym are old and unstable. Rob and Steve will investigate options, including instituting a regular maintenance schedule.
-With the opening of the new dorms, cars are parking along the Service Road, making it difficult for service vehicles to use the road safely. After discussion, committee decided to wait until classes are in session and parking patrols start back up to see if issuing citations will take care of the problem.
Building Inspections – No building inspection report. December inspections were reported at last meeting.
New Business
- A question was raised regarding Emergency Drills, (such as fire alarms) and employees not leaving the building. Committee will research the policy and Rob will send a note from the committee to infoline (possibly via Marv Wigle’s office) reminding the campus community of the policy.
Old Safety Grams
- Rob put in a service request with Facilities and Planning for an estimate to have the concrete perimeter removed from the outdoor volleyball court and replaced with a raised turf border.
-Bill noted that access to the Quinn pool has been tightened up to prevent unauthorized access.
Rob shared a draft of a “Pandemic response plan” from Carnegie Mellon. The disaster operations planning sub-committee will use it as a template for drafting an EOU plan. Stana has scheduled a meeting with Tempe Bartell regarding participation on the sub-committee and will invite her to the next Safety Committee meeting. Rob is attending an OUS Safety Officers meeting later this month and one of the agenda items for that meeting is Pandemic Response Plans – he will bring any pertinent information from that meeting to the next Safety Committee meeting.
Stana is still working on the possibility of a grant to purchase an AED.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 13, 1:00pm, in the Ackerman Alumni Room. Meeting adjourned.
