In Attendance: Bill Benson, Sue Cain, Bob Gilmore, Irene Jerome, Vickie Lee, Vivian Petersen (for Jeff Dunbar), Ryan Platt, Sue Rayburn, and Jeff Witten. Absent: Helen Moore.

Irene Jerome called the meeting to order at 2:06 p.m.

Report of 801s
-There was one 801 reported. Someone slipped on the ice on the sidewalk and fell.

Report of Non-801s
- An ODFW employee missed the last step of the stairs going into Inlow Hall and fell.

New Safety Grams
-There were no new Safety Grams, however, an individual reported to Vickie Lee that the steps in the Community Stadium grandstands are very slippery when wet and present a safety hazard. Vickie will follow up and submit a Safety Gram to Irene.

Old Business Update
- Outdoor Volleyball Court - Ryan reported that he had found some reasonably priced material to cover the concrete perimeter of the outdoor volleyball court between Hoke and Quinn. A handout was distributed describing the material and costs. Ryan will try to get samples of the material to bring to the Safety Committee.
- Pull-down steps in Community Stadium - Irene reported that non-slip material has been installed on the pull-down steps leading to a platform where games are videotaped. If it is necessary to transport equipment up the pull-down stairs, two people are required.
- Ramp in basement of Inlow - A service request has been submitted to modify the ramp in the basement of Inlow.
- Campus Weapons Policy - Irene presented the Student Weapons Policy to the Student Government at the end of fall term. The students will address the policy when they reconvene in January and get back to Irene with comments. Student Activities Director Jeff Dunbar was surprised that Eastern did not have a Weapons Policy already in place.
- Paramedic Training - Irene would like to have a paramedic come to campus to administer a program on on-the-Job accidents. Steve Wadner called the fire department to ask for a contact person.
- Let There Be Light Tour - Several Safety Committee members along with other faculty and staff on campus participated in the Let There Be Light Tour. There was a large turnout of volunteers this year.
- The southwest corner of the free parking lot near Quinn was investigated. The light in the parking lot goes on for two minutes and off for two minutes. It was noted by tour members that this was not a big problem.
- 8th Street hill - Due to the streetlight on 8th Street being behind the trees, it becomes darker the further down the sidewalk you go. Going uphill it doesn't seem to be as dark. It was noted that even in the winter with no leaves on the trees it was still too dark for safety. Also, when the sidewalks are covered with leaves it becomes very slippery, and there are some uneven levels in the sidewalk, which makes it even more hazardous.
- Mike Rhodes has discussed with VP Darlene Morgan the possibility of a snowmelt system for the 8th street entrance to campus and the north side of Loso Hall. They will keep us informed. Irene told the Committee that VP Morgan is concerned about campus safety and is strongly committed to it.
- It was reported that the area past Hunt Hall along side the embankment is pretty dark. A full report of the Let There Be Light Tour will be brought forward when Helen Moore returns.

Irene gave committee members a copy of the report by the OR-OSHA Occupational Safety Consultant, George Vorhauer, who visited EOU on October 14, 2003, to assess the safety of Eastern's facilities.

Irene will be giving a demo on the ergonomics of office equipment.

The next Safety Committee meeting was scheduled for January 20, 2004, at 2:00 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.

Minutes submitted by Vickie Lee.
