Write Now Afterschool Programs: The OWP sponsors afterschool programs encouraging young writers to enjoy writing as a means of self-expression. In this endeavor, we define “afterschool” as before or after school, weekend, summer, or any out-of-school writing opportunity. Current funding supports Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Union, and Wallowa Counties. 2012-13 Flyer.
Cove Ascension School Writing Camps: The OWP partners with Cove Ascension School to provide two summer writing camps, the Film Camp for young writers in grades 6-8 and the Mirrors of Me Camp, an arts and writing camp for girls in grades 9-12. These camps put young people in contact with EOU students and with writers and artists from the region who provide mentorship as well as artistic guidance.
ArtsEast Artist-in-Residence Program: The OWP is collaborating with ArtsEast and Fishtrap to transition the Fishtrap Writer-in-Residence Programs for Grant and Union Counties into ArtsEast’s Artist-in-Residence Program (AiR). The ArtsEast AiR catalogue will be expanded to include more writers, and administrators can contract directly with ArtsEast to bring writers to their schools. This program serves all of Eastern Oregon.
Summer Fishtrap: Scholarships are available for young writers to attend Fishtrap, Inc.’s Summer Fishtrap program at Wallowa Lake each July.
