Teachers from all disciplines and grade levels are invited to develop effective teaching strategies to enhance student learning and performance through an emphasis on writing.

Participants will...

• Demonstrate best practices
• Leave with lesson plans
• Work with visiting experts
• Explore issues of diversity
• Develop writing projects that can be used with students
• Determine areas of inquiry
• Select readings and lead discussions
• Enhance classroom pedagogy and provide district leadership

General Schedule:

• Spring preliminary meeting
• Three four-day weeks (12 meetings) in summer
• Fall follow-up meeting to report on implementation and develop leadership plans to meet district needs

Credits and Costs:

• 6 graduate quarter credits
• $800 stipend toward tuition and fees (2007 cost $1425 less $800 is $625, roughly $100 per credit)
• Check with your district about additional financial support or credit vouchers The OWP is a NCLB approved provider, and funds from Title I, II, III, and VII can be used to pay for professional development. For more information, please see this information sheet.

Application Procedure:

• Submit to Site Contact a resume, a letter of application describing teaching philosophy and one strategy you use in your classroom, and a letter of support from your administrator (see sample)
• Upon invitation, schedule an interview to discuss student work and inquiry interests.
