Workshop Descriptions:
1. Catherine Broyles
Title: Self-Publishing Zine Style
In this full-day workshop, participants will collaborate to produce a
zine: freewriting, taking digital photos, and using computers to draft
and layout their writing. Limited to 10 participants.
2. Irene Isley
Title: Word Windows
This workshop offers a series of guided sequential freewrites that
result in a complete essay. The movement is from the exterior to the
interior, from the objective to the subjective. The technique was
developed for nature writing, but often results in fine personal essays
as well. It guarantees insightful success. The pace is fast.
3. Brenda Johnson
Title: Beneath the Surface: Mask-Making and Understanding Yourself
How well do you know yourself? What characteristics about your personality are you proud of?
What do you try to hide? Gain a more complete understanding of
what motivates your thoughts and actions by writing about yourself and
then creating a mask that illustrates your ideas. Information about the
use of symbolism in art and literature will be presented to help guide
your thinking in writing and creating a mask that is uniquely you, under
the surface.
4. John Scanlan
Title: Getting to Know Your Evil Twin
In this workshop you will partner with another student to
create short pieces of writing- a description of an object, a character
sketch and a poem. In an fun twist on this exercise one of you
can
take on the "evil twin" persona and get in touch with your "bad" self!
5. John Remington
Title: Literature to Film
Participants will become
film directors as they learn about film techniques and storyboard a
scene from literature.
