About the Student Writers' Workshop

The Oregon Writing Project Student Writers' Workshop is a Saturday conference for young writers in grades 3 through 12. Student writers and their teachers and parents participate in a selection of workshops where they produce various kinds of writing. At the end of the day, participant writing is celebrated in an open mic, and writers can revise and submit their work for inclusion in a CD anthology.

About the basalt Workshop for Teachers

This year, in addition to student workshops, basalt editors Jodi Varon and David Axelrod will present a half-day workshop for teachers exploring the topic of reappropriation reappropriation in fiction and poetry. Reappropriation is a retelling of established stories, myths, legends, and folktales, often giving a fresh voice and vision to underrepresented characters and circumscribed situations.  The goal of the workshop is to provide participating teachers with the tools and experience to offer coursework on the writing of reappropriations in their classrooms and to explore appropriate venues for showcasing and publishing student work. .

CPDUs are available for participating teachers.
