Eastern Oregon Youth Writing Contest
Deadline: Postmark February 1 annually 
Eligibility: Writers in grades 3 through 12 residing in one of the ten Eastern Oregon counties (Baker, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa and Wheeler Counties). Not eligible: children of judges and readers, works in translation, previously published works.
Notification of Award: March 1
Genres: Poetry, Short Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction
Grade-Level Categories: elementary (3-5), middle (6-8), and high (9-12)
Prizes: Award ($10 cash) and Honorable Mention in each grade-level category
All prizes include complimentary registration at the Student Writers’ Workshop on Saturday, March 10 at EOU, and the potential for travel support, as needed/available. Prize-winners will be recognized and invited to read from their award-winning writing to kick off the SWW open mic. They will also be listed on the OWP website and acknowledged in local papers, if possible.
Individual Submission: Submit in ONE envelope
1) a page containing name, address, phone, email, grade level, school, teacher, title(s), and genre(s) (Creative Non-Fiction, Poetry, Short Fiction) and
2) SIX copies each of 1-3 works WITHOUT NAME, typed, 12-point font, one side of the page, and including title and genre (Creative Non-Fiction, Poetry, Short Fiction).
Class or School Submission: Teachers or schools may wish to submit a class set of writing. Class sets should include the materials required for individual submissions.
Manuscripts will not be returned. Please keep copies. Submission indicates permission to publish in venues selected by the OWP. Otherwise, all rights revert to the writer.
