"Great Discoveries"

Teacher Workshop

A curriculum w ritten by Michael Jaeger and Carol Lauritzen with funding through the Oregon AHEC system, Howard Hughes Medical Institue, and Northeast Oregon AHEC.

Great Discoveries is an integrated curriculum that fosters student engagement in science, health and literacy.  Units in the curriculum have both a global and a local perspective.  Each begins with a compelling story, continues with science investigations and ends with a challenge for students to apply their learning.

 

Who Should Attend: 4th-8th Elementary and Middle School Science Teachers
Dates:

July 20th-25th, 2009 at Pacific University

or

August 3rd-14th, 2009 in Hermiston

Stipend: $500
College Credit: 1-6 graduate credits are available through EOU.  Three credits are available for complete attendance of the five day workshop and 1-3 credits are available for classroom implementation in the fall. All credits are optional at the participant's expense.
Application Deadline: Applications must be received by April 8, 2009.

There is no cost for attending this workshop.  All instruction, materials, dorm lodging, and meals are provided.
