Northeast Oregon
Area Health Education Center (NEOAHEC) places emphasis on
"Growing Our Own" health professionals. As part
of NEOAHEC's long term vision, we are actively involved
in providing experiences to introduce our rural youth to
a variety of health care professions.
MEDQUEST Health Careers Exploration Week
Each June, NEOAHEC
brings together nearly thirty high school age youth to
attend a five-day residential experience at Eastern Oregon
University called MedQuest. The program is a
"hands-on" exploration of health care careers
designed to introduce students who have completed 9th
-12th grade to career opportunities in health care.
Shadowing is provided as an opportunity for students to
watch a health professional of their choice in their
daily routine. Students have witnessed childbirth, knee
replacement surgery, dog and cat spaying, and stomach
surgery.
Dates and Basic Information
MedQuest will be held on the Eastern Oregon University campus in
La Grande, OR on June 14-18, 2010. The tuition cost for
MedQuest is $320. There are limited scholarships available and we suggest students check their own community hospital and health care providers for scholarships.
The camp is for students who have completed the 9th -
