Mio Aoike, DMA (Adjunct Instructor 2009): Staff Accompanist, Class Piano

Mio Aoike holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Oregon, a masters degree in piano from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. She has studied both piano and accompanying with Nellie Tholen, Stewart Gordon, Daniel Pollack, Alan Smith, and Victor Steinhardt.

Aoike has spent her early years abroad, participating in international music festivals and studying with teachers in Japan, Jordan, and Venezuela. After settling in United States, she has won awards and honors including Portland Chamber Piano Competition, Pi Kappa Lambda, Japanese Ancestral Society of Portland Scholarship, semi-finalist at the Iizuka International Competition in Fukuoka, Japan, and a finalist at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. She has appeared as soloist with the Portland Chamber Orchestra and the Reed College Orchestra, and participated in masterclasses of nationally acclaimed artists including Joel Shapiro, David Bar-Illan, and David Shifrin.

Her serious training in accompanying started in graduate school, where she studied keyboard collaborative arts as her secondary field and served as a graduating teaching fellow at vocal and instrumental studios. She has been collaborating with various artists at numerous recitals and competitions including ones organized by MTNA and NATS over the years. She recently toured throughout Washington, Iowa, and Kyoto as the winner of the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle Competition, as the Uchida/Aoike piano duo, and as the member of the Oregon Breeze chamber trio. Before coming to Eastern Oregon University, she was a piano instructor at Portland Conservatory of Music and Oregon Music Academy in Tualatin.
