The Mathematics Program of the College of Arts and Sciences at Eastern Oregon University

Mathematics Program and Career Information

We offer a major in Mathematics (including concentrations in Theoretical Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Mathematical Studies). We also offer three minors - one in Mathematics, one in Statistical Mathematics, and (for multidisciplinary studies majors only) a minor in Mathematical Studies.

The Eastern Oregon University academic catalog contains information about all E.O.U. majors and classes, including Mathematics.

The American Mathematical Society keeps a page of information about careers available to those with a mathematics degree.

Student Activities

Every winter we hold the annual EOU Mathematics Competition. Congratulations to Tim Brown, Jeremy Hausotter, and Rachel Burton who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in our most recent competition.

The Spring Symposium is held every year to give students the opportunity to show their scholarly achievements.

We frequently have teams compete in The Mathematical Contest in Modeling, sponsored by COMAP, the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications. See COMAP's official site or try Eastern's local COMAP page. Congratulations to Rachel Burton, Jadon Herron, and Alex Macavoy-Gomez on their 2011 COMAP entry which received an "Outstanding" result and which was awarded the MAA Prize. Congratulations also to the team of Andrew Flynn, Rachelle Flynn, and Vaughn Skinner who received an "Honorable Mention" for their entry.

For the past few years we have had students participate in the Virginia Tech Regional Mathematics Competition.
