
Teresita Gutierrez Becerril is a teacher of beginning and intermediate
Spanish. In the summer she teaches the accelerated 7-week intermediate
course to highly motivated students. She is the originator of the Festival
of Languages and Culture - a celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity-
which takes place on the Eastern Oregon University's campus each Spring.
Some of her interests are creative writing, development of classroom materials,
and contemporary Mexican culture and literature. Her favorite authors
include Octavio Paz, Juan Rulfo and "la generacion de los enterradores"
(the generation of the grave diggers). She has published and translated
poetry and a book of short stories in
English and Spanish. Profesora Gutierrez Becerril began her teaching career
at the age of 17 in a private school in Mexico City.
