Blackboard Outage – November 3, 2012

EOU Blackboard users may have experienced connectivity and website issues between 3:18-3:40pm, on November 3, 2012. The Blackboard system abruptly and unexpectedly restarted and was unresponsive to users during this time period.

The server was autonomously reported as non-responsive at 3:20pm, and was returned to fully-functional state by 3:40pm. Please contact the EOU Helpdesk (541-962-3111, helpdesk@eou.edu) if you have further questions or comments about this Blackboard outage. Thank you.

Blackboard Safari Login Restored

During the September 2012 upgrade of Blackboard, use of the Safari browser has been restored.

Blackboard Outage – September 25th, 2012

Blackboard had an unexpected, but much needed service upgrade at 6:35am, September 25th, 2012. The blackboard services were restarted and were back in fully functional status by 6:51am.

Blackboard Outage – July 16th, 2012

A small portion of EOU Blackboard users may have experienced connectivity or Blackboard website issues between 6:14-8:25am, on July 16th, 2012. The Blackboard system adjusted for errors and failed over to it’s lower capacity, but fully operational backup system during this period.

Blackboard Login Issue

During last weeks Blackboard maintenance, logging in from the Safari browser has been interrupted. Faculty and students will encounter the following message when attempting to sign-in from Safari: “There was a problem with this login request. Contact the system administrator.”

iPad & iPhone users: Please download the free Blackboard App to login and access your courses.

Please try logging in from a different browser (Chrome, Firefox), and if you have continued issues, contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@eou.edu or 541-962-3111.

Blackboard Outage

Datacenter Power Outage – April 22, 2012

One of EOU’s data-centers, housing a good portion of the campus’ core network and server infrastructure, suffered a catastrophic power outage Sunday morning at 5:23am, April 22. Affected services included EOU’s WAN network connectivity, EOU core routing, power to colocation lessee’s equipment, Blackboard, all EOU telephones, and EOU websites.

Obviously, this malfunction should not have happened. Information Technology wishes to extend our gratitude for your patience and understanding while we recover from this event. We are taking every step possible to make sure this will not happen again.

The loss of power to the data-center was due to a malfunction in the room’s UPS system. A main breaker on the UPS was ‘tripped’ and the system did not fail-over properly, cutting power to the the entire data-center. The reason for the breaker trip is currently unknown, but is being looked into.

EOU IT was notified of the issue at 7:17am by EOU Security, and the power was returned to fully-functional state by 8:32am with the assistance of EOU Facilities electricians. Overall, Information Technology and Facilities response time was sufficient, but notification of the data-center power outage was poor at best. Information Technology is taking steps to mitigate this issue in the future.

Network Outage – February 21st, 2012

Network services for Dorm residents as well as wireless users was interrupted last night due to a DHCP server issue. Other network users were not affected by this outage. The issue has been resolved as of 8:40 AM this morning.

If you cannot access the network, please either restart your computer or device, or repair your network connection.

Between 5-8am of the same day, EOU Blackboard users should not have experienced any issues, as the Blackboard system adjusted for errors and failed over to it’s lower capacity, but fully operational backup system.
