Guidelines for Employment
As a lab aide, you play a very important role in the education of many students. You are the first contact for most of the student computer users on campus, and it is important to serve them as best you can. For that reason, we have written the following document to help you to provide a productive lab atmosphere for the students we are here to serve.
As an employee of the Information Technology department, we expect you to adhere to the following guidelines during your employment with us.
Expectations
- Keep the labs presentable while you are on duty.
- Maintain an atmosphere conducive to study.
- Become as familiar as possible with the various software programs available in the labs. This includes asking questions of the Information Technology staff whenever you run into problems.
- Obey all copyright laws! No downloading of music, video, etc.
- Do not allow food or drink near the computer equipment - a table in each lab has been set away from the computer equipment for students to leave these items – that includes you.
- No streaming of radio stations or movie sites unless needed for homework.
- Do not use your notebook computer while at work – students cannot exchange the Ethernet on lab computers for their notebooks. Direct them to Macs or the Library basement.
- No cell phones, no chewing tobacco, no smoking and no porn sites.
Duties
- When you first arrive to work login by sending an e-mail to cclabs@eou.edu
- Be punctual! Be present and ready to work ALL of your scheduled time. *Note: you are permitted to leave 10 min. early to cross campus for a class. When working 4 hours straight, you are allowed to leave the lab for a ten minute break in the middle of your shift. If you work 5 or more hours straight you may also take an unpaid ½ hour break. If you work six hours you are REQUIRED to take an unpaid 1/2 hour break. All other time off needs to be requested and covered by another lab aid.
- Current student ID’s are required for all who wish to use the lab. Also, check the ID for a current term sticker.
