Universidad Autonoma del Sur

In June 2004, Eastern Oregon University signed an exchange agreement with the Universidad Autonoma del Sur in Chile. Established in 1989, the Universidad Autonoma del Sur is among the most prestigious, private universities in Chile. The school has three branch campuses in Santiago, Temuco and Talca, with a total of 8,000 students.

The agreement includes both short-term and long-term faculty and student exchanges, making it possible for EOU faculty to spend two weeks at each of the three campuses, teaching and lecturing.

Santiago, the capitol of Chile, has a population of more than 5,000,000 people and boasts two airports, a modern subway system, and diverse cultural venues including museums and theaters. The city provides easy access to skiing in the Andes and beach combing on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Temuco, located 415 miles south of Santiago, is one of the highest populated cities in southern Chile. It is an agriculturally rich region and attractive to tourists. Bouncing back from the total devastation of an earthquake that hit in 1928, the city of Talca in central Chile is now home to the country's largest manufacturing companies. The temperate climate of the surrounding valley has also established Talca as a center for wine production.
