Agenda Items

nHIPAA privacy rule 

§Nancy discussed the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.They require that OHSU have a contract with all “business associates” to ensure that health information disclosed to them remains secure.More information is available on the web at - http://www.ohsu.edu/cc/hipaa/business.shtml

n    OHSU Conflict of Interest Policy 

§There is a new OHSU personnel policy that may affect some HNRS practitioners.The policy is available online at - http://www.ohsu.edu/policy/chapt_10/10-01-015.htm
In part, the policy states that all persons employed by OHSU at 0.5 FTE or more must disclose to OHSU sources of outside income. 

nImbler Health Room 

§Nancy announced that the Imbler School District is renovating the school health room.Improvements include installing a locking cabinet and possibly tearing down the dividing wall. 

§Ginny will ask Larry Glaze to remove the VCR and Helium canister from the health room. 

§Nancy will find out if it is possible for the school district to provide phone and internet access to the Imbler health room. 

§There was general discussion of the need to keep health records secure and confidential.Various methods of providing secure storage were discussed. 

nFord Family Foundation Grant 

§Dan Leone will be starting work on the Ford Grant project March 4th. 

§Dan and Michele will be developing programs that train nurses and nurse practitioners to provide health services in rural communities. 

§Michele will be working primarily with undergraduate nursing students. 

§Dan will be recruiting Nurse Practitioners. 

nFunding 

§Because of an error in the Medicare Administration funding calculation there is less money available than had been projected by ESD. 

§The HNRS Med Admin study will be submitted and evaluated in March.Nancy expects to receive a report with the projected funding amount in late March. 

§In February Nancy and Jeanne Bowden visited with each school district superintendent to talk about funding for HNRS. 

§Nancy reported that the districts are currently deciding how to use the Med Admin funds.Some are committed to providing funding for HNRS and some are considering other projects. 

§Selina requested a copy of the federal guidelines that tell what the Med Admin funds can be used for.Nancy will get it from Lasa at ESD and distribute copies to all of the providers. 

nDental Program 

§Michele wrote thank you letters to all of the Dentists who volunteered their services for the Dental Screening Program. 

§When the program is over, Alice Linker may write an article about the Northwest Medical Team’s Dental Van. 

§Michele and Nancy have nominated Darla Thompson for the Oregon Dental Foundation’s Healing Hands Award. 

Announcements and Open Discussion

nSue mentioned that the “Quit Line” has free nicotine patches and other products available to clients who are quitting tobacco.She will email everyone the “Quit Line” phone number.

nVicki and Cherrie created a form for use by the HNRS practitioners.The form is to be given to students by their teachers when they are sent to the nurse.Vicki will distribute copies to all of the practitioners.

nSelina and Vicki are scheduling Cholesterol screenings for March and April.

n    Lee reported that Microsoft Access has been ordered for the HNRS computers with funds from the Robert Wood Johnson grant.
