Health Network For Rural Schools

Staff Meeting Minutes

Thursday, August 25, 2005

9:00 am to 11:00 am

School of Nursing-Second Floor Conference Room

1.                  Present: Michelle, Selina, Patrice, Lyndall, Diane, Karen, Nancy, Connie, Ginny Holt, Arlene and Lee.  Sue is out of town.

2.                  Welcome back, by Nancy.

3.                  Attendees updated their contact information.  Lee will make corrections and distribute to everyone.

4.                  Sue Peeples will be the FNP at all of the schools.  Nancy explained that because of budget restrictions, the FNP will be working fewer hours this year.  Because Sue will only be working 2 hours at each school, the RNs and school staff will need to schedule appointments for students to see the FNP.

5.                  Practitioner’s schedules were arranged.  The agreed upon schedule is in the table at the bottom of the minutes.

6.                  Based on feedback from the school superintendents, Nancy recommended that all practitioners meet once a week with the school principals and superintendents.

7.                  Nancy gave an update on her childhood obesity research project.

8.                  Nancy announced that Michelle Jones has accepted the HNRS Director position.  Michelle will get started as director after she returns from leave.

9.                  There was discussion about the possibility of purchasing cell phones for the practitioners.  It was agreed that for now, people will use their own cell phones and submit requests for reimbursement to Lee if necessary.

10.             There was a question about guidelines for personal development funds.  Practitioners who work at least half-time may use personal development funds.  They are available based on the school year, not calendar year.  Nancy will check to see how much money will be available this year.

11.             Concern was expressed about Health Records at the schools being accessed by people other than practitioners.   This may be in violation of HIPPA and puts schools and the HNRS at risk.  Nancy will talk to the superintendents about HIPPA regulations.

12.             Nurses start working at the schools on August 29th, counselors start on September 6th.

13.             Meeting adjourned, Baby Shower began.
