HNRS Team Meeting
April 16, 2003
Those present: Melissa Over, Kathy Sargent, Aylee Welch, Sue
Peeples, Vicki Hill Brown, Michelle Jones, Selina Shaffer, Patrice Barreto,
Nancy Findholt
Absent: Diane McKinnis
1. Nancy spoke to
the group about her concerns with regard to funding for the HNRS. We’ve been told that the county has
eliminated funding for the HNRS from their budget. This budget has not been approved yet, so there is still time to
convince the commissioners to support the HNRS – however, the commissioners are
unlikely to do this unless they hear from many of their constituents. Nancy shared the things she has been doing
to try to maintain funding for the HNRS.
She explained that it has been difficult for her to keep up with this
given other responsibilities with OHSU and as
a doctoral student.
One of the
HNRS staff members had asked Nancy if she would be willing to send an email to
the school staff and teachers, asking for their support in contacting the
county commissioners. Nancy stated that
she would do this if the superintendents approved. She does not have access to the schools’ email so this would need
to be forwarded by the superintendents.
(Note: I
spoke to the superintendents today & they were willing to have me do
this. The email has been sent to
them. It is now up to them to post
it. I would still encourage each of you
to speak to anyone whom you think would be willing to “go to bat” for us. The HNRS is, unfortunately, a very political
program and it requires a lot of campaigning to maintain it.)
2. Nancy asked that
everyone take the time to get the health records in order prior to the end of
the year. She suggested that this could
be done during a parent-teacher conference day or at some other time when it
was not necessary to see students. Some
members of the HNRS team commented that their charts were looking quite good
and that a full day wasn’t needed for this task.
3. Michelle updated everyone on the Imbler & North Powder health fairs.
4. Nancy asked if we
might get the younger students to write notes of thanks to Grande Ronde
Hospital for their support of the HNRS.
Aylee spoke about having the students do this during the health
fairs. Nancy would like the students’
notes to be posted on a large board that could be displayed in the hospital
entryway.
5. Our last meeting for the year will be held on May 21 from 8-11 at Patrice’s home. She will send us directions.
