Launch your career or graduate work through campus leadership!

Ars Poetica: Get involved planning EOU's creative writing lecture series and student workshops.

basalt: Become an intern at EOU's literary magazine.

Blue Mountain Writers: Join a community writers' group to get feedback on your creative or professional writing.

Campus/Community Film Series: Attend and/or volunteer to lead film discussions.

Conference presentation: Present a talk or paper at EOU's Spring Symposium, the Northwest Undergraduate Literature Conference in April at Weber State, the Northwest Undergraduate Conference on Literature in April at the University or Portland, the Oregon Rhetoric Conference, or another conference.

English Club: Join other majors and minors to plan events.

Oregon East: Work and/or write for EOU's student-funded, student-run literature and art magazine.

Oregon Writing Project at Eastern (OWP @ EOU): Help with the Student Writers' Workshop in March.

Practicum: Get real-world experience as a teaching assistant, professional writer, or other literacy related community service.

The Voice: Work and/or write for EOU's student newspaper.

Writing Lab: Hone your skills and help others by become a writing tutor.

Recent Student Accomplishments

2007 alum Amanda Reed received the Rising Star Award in Literary Nonfiction from The Nature of Words in Bend, OR, for her essay "Moving in Relation to Time," written in Jodi Varon's WR 316 Advanced Prose Writing.

The following students presented at the Northwest Undergraduate Conference on Literature, 2007, University of Portland, in session titled “The Ruses of Enchantment: Fairy Tales and Their Subversions”:

In addition, Carrien Meek wrote a successful grant resulting from LS 401 Capstone, Summer 2006, for Fruitland Community Library ($1500) to purchase Caldecott- and Newberry-award-winning books
