Criteria for Becoming an Biology Teacher:

In order to teach Biology at the middle and high school levels, the preparation must be equivalent to a major (at least 50 quarter credits/ 33 semester credits) in science related disciplines, with a majority of the coursework in Biology.Preparation should include courses in a combination of the following areas:
  • Full sequence of Biology with lab (200-level minimum)
  • Microbiology
  • Genetics
  • Additional specific biology courses (i.e. botany, comparative vertebrate anatomy, zoology)
  • Chemistry with lab (full sequence recommended) and Physics with lab (2 terms)                OR
  • Physics with lab (full sequence recommended) and Chemistry with lab (2 terms)
