Reading - Undergraduate Reading
The undergraduate reading course of study (equal to a year of preparation) is designed for those seeking to gain an in-depth understanding of literacy and to improve their abilities as a teacher of reading.
The course of study is composed of foundation courses that are part of the primary and elementary cores in the Elementary Education minor and additional advanced courses. The foundational courses must be taken as prerequisites for the advanced courses.
A reading course of study is also available at the graduate level. These courses are all offered online. The purpose of the graduate reading course of study is to provide licensed teachers with additional preparation in order to work as reading resource teachers, reading specialists or reading coaches.
Reading Endorsement
When a candidate has completed the course of study and has obtained a passing score on the appropriate PRAXIS test, the licensure officer at EOU will, at the candidate's request, make a recommendation to TSPC for a Reading Endorsement to be added to the candidate's teaching license.
