Reading Course of Study- Undergraduate
A Reading Endorsement Program
Eastern Oregon University’s TSPC approved undergraduate reading course of study is designed to support those seeking an endorsement in Reading. Candidates may add this endorsement to a license by completing the reading course of study, including 90 hours of practicum, and obtaining a passing score on the Praxis II Reading Specialist examination.
Reading Course of Study checksheet (Reading Endorsement)
The undergraduate reading course of study, which is equal to a year of preparation, is designed for those seeking to gain an in-depth understanding of literacy and to improve their abilities as a teacher of reading. The reading course of study is composed of 34-36 undergraduate credits. The undergraduate reading course of study courses are only offered onsite and must be taken in conjunction with undergraduate teacher preparation (CUESTE).
A reading endorsement program is also available at the graduate level. The Graduate Literacy courses are all offered online. The purpose of the Graduate Literacy program is to provide licensed teachers with additional preparation in order to work as reading resource teachers, reading specialists or reading coaches.
Adding a Reading Endorsement
When a candidate has completed the reading course of study and has obtained a passing score on the PRAXIS Reading Specialist test, the licensure officer at EOU will, at the candidate’s request, make a recommendation to TSPC for a Reading Endorsement to be added to the candidate’s teaching license.
