Criteria for Becoming a PE/Health Teacher:       

                                                    

In order to teach Physical Education and Health at the middle and high school levels, the teacher candidate must have preparation equivalent to a major in both content areas.

If the teacher candidate does not have a major in the subject, then he/she must have taken classes equivalent to Eastern Oregon University's Physical Education Major.

Please note that these are guidelines only and that a transcript review and advising are needed to assure that you will meet the requirements. For advising related to preparation for Physical Education and Health teaching, please contact:

Steps to MTE admission for becoming a PE/Health Teacher:

 

Step 1: Complete MTE Secondary application. Application available at:

http://www.eou.edu/ed/documents/SecApplication.pdf

Step 2: Send in application, including all unofficial transcripts. Send to:

Step 3: Enroll for and pass the PRAXIS II, in the content area that you are seeking for endorsement

Physical Education Test

and/or

Health Test:

Step 4: Enroll for and pass the CBEST or PRAXIS I (PPST)

Step 5: Complete a 30 hour experience in a public school instructional setting

Step 6: Complete EOU Application for Graduate Admission. Application available at:
