Criteria for Becoming a Music Teacher:
In order to teach Music at the middle and high school levels, the teacher candidate must have preparation equivalent to a major in Music. If the teacher candidate does not have a major in the subject, then he/she must have taken classes equivalent to an Eastern Oregon University broad-based Music degree. Please note that these are guidelines only and that a transcript review and advising are needed to assure that you will meet the requirements. Steps to MTE admission for becoming a Music Teacher:
Step 1: Complete MTE Secondary application. Application available at: http://www.eou.edu/ed/documents/SecApplication.pdf Step 2: Send in application, including all unofficial transcripts. Send to: Janet Frye-MTE Office Coordinator College of Education One University Blvd La Grande, OR 97850 Step 3: Enroll for and pass the PRAXIS II, Music Test Step 4: Enroll for and pass the CBEST or PRAXIS I (PPST) Step 5: Complete a 30 hour experience in a public school instructional setting Step 6: Complete EOU Application for Graduate Admission.
