In order to teach English language arts at the middle and high school levels, the teacher candidate must have the equivalent of a major in English. Preparation should include a balance between literature and writing with courses in the following areas:

Step 1: Complete MTE Secondary application. Application available at: http://www.eou.edu/ed/documents/SecApplication.pdf Step 2: Send in application, including all unofficial transcripts. Send to: Janet Frye-MTE Office Coordinator College of Education One University Blvd La Grande, OR 97850 Step 3: Enroll for and pass the PRAXIS II, Language Arts Test Step 4: Enroll for and pass the CBEST or PRAXIS I (PPST) Step 5: Complete a 30 hour experience in a public school instructional setting Step 6: Complete EOU Application for Graduate Admission.
