Criteria for Becoming a Foreign Language Teacher:       

                                                    

In order to teach one of the foreign languages (either German or Spanish) at the middle and high school levels, the teacher candidate must have preparation equivalent to a minor in the subject.

Teacher candidates must also be able to test out at an intermediate-high proficiency level.

Please note that these are guidelines only and that a transcript review and advising are needed to assure that you will meet the requirements. For advising related to preparation for Foreign Language teaching, please contact:

Steps to MTE admission for becoming a Foreign Language Teacher:

 

Step 1: Complete MTE Secondary application. Application available at:

http://www.eou.edu/ed/documents/SecApplication.pdf

Step 2: Send in application, including all unofficial transcripts. Send to:

Step 3: Enroll for and pass the PRAXIS II, in your content area

Spanish Test

or

German Test

Step 4: Enroll for and pas the CBEST or PRAXIS I (PPST)

Step 5: Complete a 30 hour experience in a public school instructional setting

Step 6: Complete EOU Application for Graduate Admission. Application available at:
